Big Earthquake California Los Angeles

Quakes Rattle California, Nevada

Recent Earthquakes in California and Nevada

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck California's Mojave Desert on Monday, sending shaking that was felt as far away as Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The quake struck at 10:37 a.m. PDT, with an epicenter about 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of Barstow, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but the quake was felt widely across Southern California and parts of Nevada.

This is the second earthquake to hit Southern California in recent days. On Friday night, a 7.1 earthquake rocked the region, causing multiple fires and damaging buildings.

The USGS is urging residents to be prepared for aftershocks, which can occur for days or even weeks after a major earthquake.
